Song of the Week: "You Got Me" by One Block Radius

Order “One Block RadiusHERE

In the past, I’ve mentioned that my tastes are fairly diverse and that I will listen to pretty much anything apart from country ;) Up till now, the songs I’ve posted have mainly catered to my more rock/alternative sensibilities, so I thought I’d throw in a little hip-hop. The problem is that I’ve haven’t been feeling very much hip-hop/RnB lately. It’s not that I haven’t been listening to any. On the contrary, I’ve recently been spinning brand new releases from Nelly, Ne-Yo, DJ Khaled, LL Cool J, Colby O’Donis, Kardinal Offishall, etc. Unfortunately, while there have been a couple of tracks that I deemed worthy enough to be added to my iPod, nothing really stood out for me…except “You Got Me” by One Block Radius.

One Block Radius hails from California and their self-titled sophomore album—out September 16, 2008—marks their major label debut via Mercury Records. To be honest, the album kind of sucks. In fact, I would avoid the record altogether and just get the single, “You Got Me”, which is absolutely killer and easily my favorite hip-hop song of the year:

  1. Personally, this isn't the hip-hop I like to listen to (I could see every punchline coming from a mile away, and the subject matter is pretty shallow) but this is pretty catchy all the same. MURS's new album drops on the 30th though.

  2. Kenyon, it's definitely catchy :) Thanks for the heads up on the new Murs album. Didn't know there was another one coming out. Personally I'm a fan of UK hip-hop; grime and such like Kano, Sway, Dizzee Rascal, Akala, The Streets, etc--although the new Streets album kind of sucked in my opinion...
