Congratulations to Nora Scott-Platt (Indiana), Kathy Conley (Missouri) and Tamara Litke (South Dakota) who were all randomly selected to win a COPY of Felix Gilman’s (Interviewed HERE) excellent debut “Thunderer” (Reviewed HERE) thanks to Bantam Spectra!!!
In news, I just have a few tidbits: For starters, the lineup for the 2008 Alt.Fiction Day—a Derby, UK-based sci-fi & fantasy fiction event—has been announced and it’s a good one including such authors as Stephen Hunt, Brian Lumley, Michael Marshall Smith, Mike Carey, Charles Stross, Graham Joyce, Ramsey Campbell, Justina Robson and many more! Featuring readings, workshops and panels with some of the UK's leading talent in science fiction, fantasy and horror literature, Alt.Fiction Day takes place on April 26, 2008 @ the Derby Assembly Rooms and will run from noon-9pm. Tickets for the day cost £20, or £16 concessions, and can be booked from the Assembly Rooms Box Office at 01332 255800. For more information, you can contact Alex Davis HERE or visit the Alt.Fiction Blog. –sigh– If only I lived in the UK…
Moving on, EOS Books is giving away FIVE bound galleys of the third volume—Passage—in Lois McMaster Bujold's Sharing Knife series to the first five people who email the publisher HERE. The only catch is you have to write a reader’s review of the book by its April 22, 2008 release. Not sure if the copies are already gone, but I thought it was worth mentioning and if it is too late, at least you can look forward to a review of the book from yours truly :)
For more free books, PS Publishing and Wired.com is offering Jeff VanderMeer’s upcoming chapbook/novelette “The Situation” as a FREE download HERE. It doesn’t get much better than that! For more information on the download check out the press release HERE.
Lastly, this is actually old news, but recently on The Swivet two acquisitions were announced that has me pretty excited. The first is “Fat Ghost Ocean” to Roc Books by author Shawn Peters who wrote the excellent “Whitechapel Gods” (Reviewed HERE) and which features a 22-year-old ‘binder’ charged by The Man in the Empty Chair with imprisoning the mythical beasts from the ancient days of the Old Powers… The other is Alex Bledsoe’s “Blood Groove” to Tor, the first book in a new series with a vampire who resurrects sixty years after being staked to find a drastically changed world and more peril than he ever expected… Alex you may remember is the author of “The Sword-Edged Blonde” (Reviewed HERE), one of my favorite debuts in 2007 :)

Ms. Bujold is one of my top 4 sff authors that I buy and read everything on publication pretty much since her debut around 1990 and never been disappointed - I usually count only at least after 5 published novels, and the others are P. Hamilton, D. Weber and N. Asher, but J. Abercrombie is heading there too - and despite being quite different than earlier work and panned by some for various reasons, I am really enjoying The Sharing Knife double duology, so I am really excited about book 3 or 2/1 depending how you look at it. I am looking forward to your review.
Liviu
Did you know that there is a sequel coming out to The Sword-edged Blonde later this year from Night Shade? That's one I can't wait to read.
Liviu, the Sharing Knife duology was actually my introduction to Ms. Bujold but I was quite impressed! I can't wait to read "Passage" personally :) I'm afraid I haven't read any David Weber but I absolutely love Neal Asher! I actually just got his new one "Line War" and will be hosting a giveaway for it tomorrow :D
Joe, yep "Burn Me Deadly" is on my wishlist and I'm hoping I'll get a review copy this time :)
