Sherlock Holmes - Issue #1 (Reviewed by Fabio Fernandes)

The brand new series of Sherlock Holmes published by Dynamite Entertainment starts with a bang - and most literally, at that. Writers Leah Moore and John Reppion resurrected the old detective with a five-issue story arc titled The Trial of Sherlock Holmes, which puts the famous sleuth in the center of what appears to be a political conspiracy, complete with murder - a murder of which Holmes himself is accused.

Aaron Campbell's interesting illustrations sometimes remember the strange, somewhat puppetlike and slightly out-of-proportion drawings of Richard Corben. Good stuff.

The cover, by John Cassaday, already give the reader a fairly good taste of what he\she is going to find inside the pages: a grim, somber story that pays homage to Conan Doyle's greatest creation and at the same time adds to it a kind of different flavor.
Holmesian lore, judging by the last pages of issue 1, is never going to be the same again. Even though being a huge fan of the Detective myself, I strongly hope so, for it's always refreshing to see new approaches to old friends. I liked what I saw and I definitely want to see more of it. Good job, old chaps!

Issue 3 is on sale already.

Nice :) I'm really looking forward to this as well as The Complete Dracula that Dynamite is also producing. Will probably wait for the graphic novels though...
