Spotlight on September Books

This month we are featuring 42 books. There are more than twice as many new sff and related releases this month in traditional publishing not to speak of the countless indies from Amazon and Smashwords but we are limiting ourselves to books that will be reviewed here or are similar with such. For the full schedule of September 2011 titles known to us, you can consult the Upcoming Releases page.

The release dates are US unless marked otherwise, though for books released in the UK and US in the same month but on different dates we use the earliest date without comment and they are first edition unless noted differently. The dates are on a best known basis so they are not guaranteed; same about the edition information. Since information sometimes is out of date even in the Amazon links we use for listings, books get delayed or sometimes even released earlier, we would truly appreciate if you would send us an email about any listing with incorrect information.

Sometimes a cover image is not available at the time of the post and also sometimes covers change unexpectedly so while we generally use the Amazon one when available and cross check with Google Images, the ultimate bookstore cover may be different.

I have a copy and reads very well but I have not found yet the big chunks of time/energy it needs for a proper read; it is huge too

I'm very much looking forward to Cold Fire - I really enjoyed Cold Magic. I still haven't read any Charlton or Priest but I want to get on that as soon as possible

That's a hell of a post... I see a few promising ones... Legacy of kings seems to be getting great reviews, and it's good to see Spellbound get a new cover lol... Also, Blackdog looked promising, but had a terrible premise... Good cover though!

Lots of great choices this month:

- the huge asap's for me are Cold Fire and The islanders and I think i will give an asap try to Fractal prince when published despite being only so-so about Quantum Thief

- I read and loved the first 2 CS Friedman novels in the Legacy Kings series and reviewed #2 but I have been a little distanced from traditional fantasy for some months now so that is a take a look when i see a copy for now

-All Men of Genius is very intriguing so I will check it out on publication and I will take a look at The Highest frontier and Fire&Thorns as they are published and i can get a sample

War in Heaven, Bronze Summer are #2 in series I have and opened #1 but neither advanced beyond page 20, nor gave up on, so those are "if in the mood"

Goliath is #3 in a YA series I loved the debut Leviathan, but never got to Behemoth though I have a copy, so I may read both when Goliath is out

Prospero Regained is #3 in a series I unexpectedly loved #1, but was meh on #2, so I will check it out but with low expectations

Mr. Fox is by an author i really loved a book (White is for Witching) so I have to check it despite that I dislike books with its premise of mixing people and their fictions

I have Reamde and it reads well but I will probably wait for a digital copy to tackle this monster novel of 1000 pages

I read and loved:

The Rift Walker (rv posted)
Into the Hinterlands (rv posted)
The Night Circus (rv done tbp soon)
How firm a Foundation (rv tbd)
The Immorality Engine (rv tbd)
Debris (rv tbd)

I read and liked well enough but not as much as I expected The Deaprture (rv tbd)

Of the rest most are sure no interest for me, though there is one or two I may look at if they or a sample come into my hands
