Spotlight on June Books

This month we are featuring 36 books. There are more than twice as many new sff and related releases this month in traditional publishing not to speak of the countless indies from Amazon and Smashwords but we are limiting ourselves to books that will be reviewed here or are similar with such. For the full schedule of June 2012 titles known to us, you can consult the Upcoming Releases page.

 The release dates are US unless marked otherwise, though for books released in the UK and US in the same month but on different dates we generally use the US  date and they are first edition unless noted differently. The dates are on a best known basis so they are not guaranteed; same about the edition information.

 Since information sometimes is out of date even in the Amazon links we use for listings, books get delayed or sometimes even released earlier, we would truly appreciate if you would send us an email about any listing with incorrect information.

I feel lost without your spotlights. None were posted for April and May, right? Or did I just miss them?

Thank you for your comment; from late March I was away from FBC until mid-April, while in April I had some minor health issues...

I will be away in late June too, but hopefully this time I will do the July spotlight by the 3rd or 4th when I am back

Anyway we have the Upcoming Releases Page which Robert keeps fresh and that is more complete, but here I like to highlight the books that we tend to like at FBC

I can't wait for Sworn in Steel! I loved Hulick's debut, and I've a feeling that it can only get better.

I had Beyond the Wall from netgalley and for anybody who loves A Song of Ice and Fire series it is a must. It is just jam packed with essays and comments on the series and I've only read one essay so far but it is brilliant.

Unfortunately Hulick has said "Sworn in Steel" won't be released in June. He said the publisher hasn't changed the release date yet. But he only recently sent in the final edit.

@beccabooklover

I read a few essays from Beyond the Wall and I agree that it is an excellent companion to ASOIAF

@SQT

Thank you for letting us know about Sworn in Steel

For me this month the big books I do not have yet are Corey, Gibson and Saylor (non-sff), while I have but not yet read Suited.

I have reviewed Reynolds a long time ago on UK release and I read Furst and Wood (again both non-sff, with Furst excellent and Wood pretty good but weaker last part) and Liz Williams (good but way too UF'ish for me) and D. Brin (abysmal but ambitious) and these are the reviews I plan in addition to May leftovers like Mantel, Mieville and KSR, possibly Keith Brooke

Also Orphanmaster (non-sff) is very intriguing but do not have it yet while the heralded ($$$$$$) Karen Walker debut which I've had for months now may get a serious try and who knows, maybe I will read Melko and Joyce (this last I declined a review copy as I am not sure I am interested but i will check a sample on release and buy it if I like that)

Yay for the Spirit War! I was just wondering over the weekend when that was coming out.

Actually saw it (Spirit War) this afternoon in the local BN here in AA; it is a pretty big tpb and I am sure Mihir will have a review soon
