Exclusive Cover Reveal: Flames of Mana: Eschaton Cycle (Heirs of Mana Book 2) by Matt Larkin
When I contracted Felix Ortiz for this series, it was always supposed to be a trilogy of grimdark fantasy books set in Polynesia (with a potential second trilogy some day).
We knew we wanted all the covers to mirror one another, so book 2 was going to look like book 1 in so far as a god-queen would be wielding badass elemental magic.
Anyone who read book 1 could probably guess which goddess needed to be on this cover:
Pele.
Pretty much the most badass deity in Polynesian myth.
In this case, my request to Felix was something like “give me lots of lava and eruptions.”
Felix pretty much took that and ran with it, incorporating water both for contrast, and a representation of the continuing struggle between the different god-queens.
And I love how it turned out.
