Terry Brooks' "Shannara" fantasy series optioned for film by Warner Bros. + Thundercats!!!
Based on this report from Variety, Warner Bros. Pictures (Harry Potter, Superman Returns, Batman Begins) has nabbed the rights to Terry Brooks’ bestselling Shannara fantasy series with plans to first adapt “The Elfstones of Shannara”, the second book in the original Shannara trilogy. It’s been a long time in the making, but it’s really no surprise that the series is coming to the big screen. I’ve read the majority of Mr. Brooks’ novels, and I always thought they would translate well into movie format. Personally though, I thought the earlier Shannara books were a bit on the generic side and I’d rather see some of his newer releases adapted instead like The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy, the High Druid of Shannara trilogy or the current Genesis of Shannara series, which is shaping up to be the best. In all honesty though, I loved the Magic Kingdom of Landover books the most and wish that Universal Pictures would get moving on their adaptation of “Magic Kingdom For Sale - SOLD!”, which seems to have been in development hell for decades. Regardless, I’m interested to see how these films turn out, if they happen…
In other news, the 80s resurgence continues. First, you have the Transformers movie coming out in July. Then there were the recent reports of He-Man & the Masters of the Universe and G.I. Joe being turned into live-action features by Warners Bros. Pictures/Joel Silver and Paramount Pictures/Lorenzo di Bonaventura respectively. And now you have this news of the Thundercats coming to the big screen courtesy of Warner Bros. I admit that I used to watch this cartoon, but even as a kid, I thought it was kind of gay. We’ll just have to wait and see of course...

Oh Elfstones on the big screen!!! Oh and I love the Thundercats! Mehehe. And the Silverhawks!
LOL, I forgot about the Silverhawks. Wasn't into them that much, but with the current trend I wouldn't be surprised to see it optioned. What about Voltron? Now there was a favorite :)
I loved Voltron as well! I grew up with Japanese anime so I must say I'm biased there. hehehe. My fave growing up was Mazinger! Oh and Cyborg 009!
I didn't really get into anime until college, but I love what I've seen. I'm more into the feature-lengths rather than the shows, but if I had more time, I'd probably watch more. Btw, I guess they are working on a Voltron film :)
