I am awaiting many books by authors that I have discovered in the past year or two. So I was glad to come across the wonderful news about these books coming out later in the year. First up is the excellent, genre-mixing Peter Clines whose new book “14” is coming out and has been shrouded in mystery so far. However Peter revealed a bit about it in his recent most interview and here’s what he had revealed about it:
"It’s kind of a cross-genre survival-horror-mystery novel about a guy who moves into an old apartment building and starts to notice odd things. Little mysteries that all start piling up and leading to bigger and bigger mysteries that stretch back over decades. It’s also about getting to know your neighbors and building a community. Craig DiLouie–he of The Infection and The Killing Floor–got to read an advance copy and he called it “LOST in an apartment building!”.
However Permuted Press was nice enough to release a pic of the cover with the back blurb which is to be found here and here’s the official blurb:
"Nate hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No Plans for the future. The one thing he does have is his new apartment in an old L.A. brownstone. Its not perfect, but it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly and the odd pests and unusual lighting fixtures don’t nag at him too much.
At least, not until he meets Holly, his neighbor across the hall and notices something odd about her apartment. And Tim’s apartment. And Xela’s. And Veek’s.
Because every room in Nate’s new building has its own mystery. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind closed doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate. OR THE END OF EVERYTHING…"
I loved Ex-Heroes and Ex-Patriots and so I can’t wait to see what Peter’s brain has come up with, especially with the tagline of “A riveting apocalyptic mystery in the style of LOST” this book is very high on my anticipated book list.
Next on the shiny cover art front is the final book of the Charlie Madigan series by Kelly Gay titled “Shadows Before The Sun” which features an all-new POV [Hank] for the series but also brings an action-packed end to the odyssey begun in the first book. The cover done by Chris McGrath is very much in line with his previous efforts. I had reviewed the third book on FBC and it basically blew my expectations out of the water. To find out more about the book, here’s the blurb that promises more Charlie, more magic and definitely more mayhem!
Next up is the cover for the final Legend of Eli Monpress saga titled “Spirit’s End” and the cover looks fitting to say the least, in regards to its blurb that says:
“Eli Monpress is clever, he's determined, and he's in way over his head.
First rule of thievery: don't be a hero. When Eli broke the rules and saved the Council Kingdoms, he thought he knew the price, but resuming his place as the Shepherdess's favorite isn't as simple as bowing his head. Now that she has her darling back, Benehime is setting in motion a plan that could destroy everything she was created to protect, and even Eli's charm might not be enough to stop her. But Eli Monpress always has a plan, and with disaster rapidly approaching, he's pulling in every favor he can think of to make it work, including the grudging help of the Spirit Court's new power player, Miranda Lyonette.
But with the world in panic, the demon stirring, and the Lord of Storms back on the hunt, it's going to take more than luck and charm to pull Eli through this time. He's going to have to break a few more rules and work with some old enemies if he's going to survive.”
However the author has said that it might not be the final cover and there might be a few alterations to it. But it heralds an end to a saga that has entertained, enchanted and enthralled many a fantasy fan. After loving the first three books, I can't wait to see what the author has planned in the finale to this favorite series of mine.
Lastly here’s the newly revealed UK cover for Shadow Ops: Control Point by Myke Cole (reviewed here), it’s done by Larry Rostant and takes a different path than its USA counterpart. Quite a change and something which runs parallel to the book covers of Douglas Hulick’s debut done by the same cover artist.

If I were to judge a book purely by its cover, the Peter Clines book looks pretty intriguing.
Of course, I am looking forward to read the Kelly Gay and Rachel Aaron books though :)
