Introducing Fantasy Book Critic’s Newest Reviewers: Daniel H., Shazzie., Matthew H. & V (Caffeinated Covers)

Fantasy Book Critic is pleased to introduce the four new members of our team: Daniel Haeusser, Shazzie, Matthew Higgins & V (Caffeinated Covers)!

We hope you’ll give them a warm welcome :)

Daniel is a microbiologist who studies bacteriophage impacts on bacterial cell shape and division. He is an Associate Professor of Biology at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, where he also teaches courses like Biology in Fiction and Film in the All-College Honors program.

A voracious reader from all sorts of genres and lengths, Daniel writes book reviews and critiques for a variety of outlets. Within science fiction/fantasy/horror, he particularly likes works with more conventional literary elements, gothic and darker fantasy/horror, space opera, or anything that draws from biology. He’s conversant in French, so he often reads fiction in the original French, and seeks out speculative (and other) fiction in translation to English at every opportunity.

Some of Daniel’s favorite authors include: Margaret Atwood, Andrea Barrett, John Bellairs, Octavia Butler, Leonora Carrington, Adam-Troy Castro, Samuel R. Delany, Tananarive Due, Ursula K. Le Guin, M.R. James, Ken Liu, Arkady Martine, Sam J. Miller, Steven Millhauser, Karen Russell, George Saunders, Nisi Shawl, Joan Slonczewski, Laurence Suhner, Élisabeth VonarburgPeter Watts, and Gene Wolfe. And any volume edited by Ellen Datlow is a sure bet.

There are certainly many others he’s forgotten, and Daniel can’t believe there’s so much more out there he is certain to love, but hasn’t gotten around to reading yet. So, he’s going to stop writing this and go pick up a book.

Daniel can be found on Goodreads, on Twitter, or at his general review blog.

Shazzie is a Software Engineer from Bangalore, India, currently living in the West. She comes from a family with a love for storytelling, and grew up being encouraged to read as much as possible.

Her favourite writers include Jane Austen, Edith Wharton, Fonda Lee, Brandon Sanderson and Terry Pratchett, to name a few. She rediscovered her love for SFF in her adult years, and has not gone anywhere without her kindle since. She has a deep love for mythology, especially Indian, and does her best to venture into other genres.

She can be found on goodreads , on Instagram and Twitter.

Matthew Higgins was born and raised in the UK near London, although he always felt more of a northerner since he is most at home in the mountains. He is a voracious reader of fantasy, as well as crime thrillers, true crime, and both fictional and non-fiction adventure novels.

His favourite authors include Brandon Sanderson, Justin T. Call, Thomas Howard Riley, Robert Jordan, and John Gwynne. Whilst his fantasy experience is mostly through the Cosmere and Wheel Of Time, he looks forward to expanding his reading into other areas of fantasy, and catching up on the amazing books he has missed!

When not reading, Matthew loves to spend time in the outdoors as an avid hiker, kayaker and climber, as well as working on creating an Indiana Jones inspired audio drama, and being a fledgling booktuber.

Matthew can be found on Goodreads and twitter and on YouTube.

Hi I’m V. If I could make a living reading books, talking about books, or basically doing anything that involves books, I would. Until then, I’ll do my day job like a normal adult and fit in my bookish obsession in whenever I can in my off time. I'm into fantasy fiction of all types, but my favorite flavors of fantasy right now are urban fantasy, new adult fantasy, dark fantasy, and epic fantasy.

If I have recommended you your new favorite read, or if you like my content a lot and wish I was spending 40+ hours a week making more of it, then your likes, shares, and subscription to my YouTube channel are much appreciated. You can also show support by following me on Twitter @caffeinatedcov and on Instagram @CaffeinatedCovers. It means a lot and I am very grateful for all the kind support I have received on social media.
