Introducing Fantasy Book Critic’s Newest Reviewers: Daniel H., Shazzie., Matthew H. & V (Caffeinated Covers)
Fantasy Book Critic is pleased to introduce
the four new members of our team: Daniel Haeusser, Shazzie, Matthew
Higgins & V (Caffeinated Covers)!
We
hope you’ll give them a warm welcome :)
Daniel is a microbiologist who
studies bacteriophage impacts on bacterial cell shape and division. He is an
Associate Professor of Biology at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, where he
also teaches courses like Biology in Fiction and Film in the All-College Honors
program.
A
voracious reader from all sorts of genres and lengths, Daniel writes book reviews and critiques for a variety of outlets.
Within science fiction/fantasy/horror, he particularly likes works with more
conventional literary elements, gothic and darker fantasy/horror, space opera,
or anything that draws from biology. He’s conversant in French, so he often
reads fiction in the original French, and seeks out speculative (and other)
fiction in translation to English at every opportunity.
Some
of Daniel’s favorite authors
include: Margaret Atwood, Andrea Barrett, John Bellairs, Octavia
Butler, Leonora
Carrington, Adam-Troy Castro, Samuel R. Delany, Tananarive Due, Ursula K. Le Guin,
M.R. James, Ken Liu, Arkady Martine,
Sam J. Miller, Steven Millhauser, Karen
Russell, George Saunders, Nisi Shawl, Joan Slonczewski, Laurence
Suhner, Élisabeth
Vonarburg, Peter Watts, and
Gene Wolfe. And any volume edited by
Ellen Datlow is a sure bet.
There
are certainly many others he’s forgotten, and Daniel can’t believe there’s so much more out there he is certain
to love, but hasn’t gotten around to reading yet. So, he’s going to stop
writing this and go pick up a book.
Daniel can be found on Goodreads, on Twitter, or at his general
review blog.
His favourite authors include Brandon Sanderson, Justin T. Call, Thomas Howard Riley, Robert Jordan, and John Gwynne. Whilst his fantasy experience is mostly through the Cosmere and Wheel Of Time, he looks forward to expanding his reading into other areas of fantasy, and catching up on the amazing books he has missed!
When not reading, Matthew loves to spend time in the outdoors as an avid hiker, kayaker and climber, as well as working on creating an Indiana Jones inspired audio drama, and being a fledgling booktuber.
Matthew can be found on Goodreads and twitter and on YouTube.
