October
(40)
Welcome to the October 2008 edition of Fantasy Book Critic’s monthly SPOTLIGHT which covers everything from fantasy and science fiction to horror, thrillers, YA, and more. Previous spotlights can be found HERE. Arguably, October is most commonly known for Halloween. And not surprisingly this month is full of horror titles that readers can sink their teeth into including an Edgar Allen Poe anthology edited by Peter Straub, The Horror Stories of Robert E. Howard, The New Annotated Dracula, Vampire Zero, The Dracula Dossier, Ghost Radio, Piper, Soulless, the movie tie-in paperback release of Let the Right One In, and releases by such luminaries as H.P. Lovecraft and Brian Lumley, not to mention the numerous urban fantasy books released this month. Of course, October isn’t all about horror. There are also highly anticipated sequels like The Temporal Void, The Widows of Eastwick, The Fire, The Pirate King, A Lion Among Men, The Hero of Ages and Caine Black Knife. Plus, there are a ton of YA/Children’s releases this month, led by the hot fantasy debut, “Graceling”. And lastly, one of my most anticipated books of the year is coming out in October—Andy Remic’s “Biohell” :) (NOTE: Unless stated otherwise, all release dates are for the US. Providing valuable assistance with the Spotlight once again is Liviu C. Suciu):
