Dabel Brothers to Publish an Original Comic Book Series from Bestselling Author, C.E. Murphy
Dabel Brothers Publishing is excited to announce the original comic book series “Take a Chance”, written by bestselling author C.E. Murphy, with art by Ardian Syaf, already known for his fantastic work on Jim Butcher's “The Dresden Files: Welcome to the Jungle” and the upcoming “The Dresden Files: Storm Front”.
“Take A Chance has been a years-long pet project, built on the shoulders of my insanely talented artist and colorist, Ardian Syaf and Jason Embury. We've been on a long road, but I was convinced that patience would bring me to the right publisher, and working with the Dabel Brothers has proved me right,” says C.E. Murphy. “They're as excited about the comic as I am, which is saying quite a lot—finally seeing it come to fruition is just amazing.”
Five years ago, Frankie Kemp's four-year-old son was shot and killed in the crossfire of gang warfare. Desperate to do something to protect other children, Frankie became “Chance”, a masked vigilante in a world without superheroes.
However, that all changed when a genetically engineered virus escaped North Korean scientists and spread world-wide. Intended to create a super-soldier program, the virus improved on the basic human template—when it didn't sicken or kill. Now the world is suddenly littered with super-powered beings, and Chance must rediscover her place in the changing world around her…
“C. E. Murphy and Ardian Syaf make a great team. Ardian's work on Take A Chance is just as stunning as his art on The Dresden Files,” says Les Dabel, Vice President of Dabel Brothers Publishing. “This is a book that we believe in, and one that I think readers will really enjoy.”
C.E. Murphy's Take A Chance Vol. 1 is a five-issue mini-series starting this December. The series features Ardian Syaf (The Dresden Files) on pencils, colorist Jason Embury (Hero By Night, Shadowhawk), letterer Melissa S. Kaercher (Dr. Blink, Superhero Shrink) and cover artist Scott Clark (X-Men, Stormwatch).
About the Author:
C.E. Murphy is the bestselling author of both urban and historical fantasy novels, including The Walker Papers series, The Negotiator Trilogy and The Inheritors’ Cycle. Born in Alaska and now living in her ancestral homeland of Ireland, she discovered comics beyond Archie & Jughead when she read ElfQuest as a pre-teen. A few years later, she was seduced by superhero titles and Jim Lee's artwork, and she's never looked back. Writing comics is one of her long-held dreams.
About Dabel Brothers Publishing, LLC:
Dabel Brothers Publishing, LLC, is a comic book studio dedicated to bringing many of the best and most popular novels in the world of fantasy to the comic book medium. Since its inception in 2001 they have produced adaptations of novels by bestselling authors including George R.R. Martin, Orson Scott Card, Laurell K. Hamilton, Raymond E. Feist, Tad Williams, Richard A. Knaak, and Robert Silverberg. Currently on the schedule is a remarkable list of high-profile projects including adaptations of major novels by bestselling authors: Dean Koontz's Frankenstein: Prodigal Son, an original story set in the world of Jim Butcher's bestselling series The Dresden Files, a Wild Cards series edited and overseen by George R. R. Martin, and a brand-new Mercy Thompson adventure by Patricia Briggs.
Recently announced Dabel Brothers projects include Malcom Wong’s Dog Eaters, Jim Dresden’s Dresden Files: Storm Front, Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time, The Warriors, Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters and the Illustrated George R.R. Martin A Song if Ice & Fire 2009 Calendar.
NOTE: I’ve only read one book by Ms. Murphy, “The Queen’s Bastard” (Reviewed HERE), but it was excellent, and I’ve wanted to read more of the author’s work. Meanwhile, I’ve seen what Ardian can do, and if anything, his artwork looks even better now, so I can’t wait to check out “Take A Chance”. I think the series will be a lot of fun, and I’m a sucker for original work…

i've only read her walker papers, but I do visit her site and am intruiged by the graphic novel.
Murphy knows how to tell a compelling story, so I really look forward to this.
I stopped reading comics a long time ago, but I do like C.E. Murphy's writing. I think I'll make an exception for this one, it does look like fun. Thanks for the heads up.
You're welcome Brie :) And thanks for the comments everyone!
Oh! *Thanks* for plugging the comic here, Robert! I really appreciate it!
