David Eddings, at 77

I learned by Stephen Hunt that David Eddings passed away yesterday night, age 77. According to Hunt, "his commercial success paved the way for a whole generation of doorstopper sized fantasy series."

Apparently, he died of a stroke - the same thing that, in 2007, took the life of his wife, Leigh Eddings, with whom he had written several of his books. He never recovered from her loss.

Though I never read any of his books (yet), I was saddened by the news and I pay my respects to his family in the name of the FBC team.

Thanks for sharing the news, sad albeit it be. That being said...you haven't read David Eddings?! He was the author who turned me back to being a major fantasy fans, after I left behind the fairy tales and fables of childhood. I know, the description on the back cover of _Pawn of Prophecy_ and its sequels may not be the most compelling out there, but don't let that turn you away, because the book(s) are excellent! I thank my friend who gave me that first book as a Christmas present, and which I read over the school holidays because I didn't have much else to do. As soon as school was back in session, I took out all the sequels in the school library and proceeded to read them every night instead of doing my homework! Please, do yourself a favor and read a David Eddings book today. I look forward to hearing your feedback and retro-review on it. :)
